42 year old female, came to the office in pain, 101 fever, fatigued and lethargic with increased heart palpitation. To avoid septicemia she received an IM injection of Cephalexin before surgery.
The diseased gum was removed. The underlying bone was cleaned using piezotome. Her own bone and gum from a different site of the mouth was transplanted.
Our recent patient’s journey through periodontal therapy showcases the intricate work necessary to counteract the severe effects of gum disease, compounded by thyroid medication complications. We’re excited to share not just a story of medical intervention but a testament to the resilience and transformative potential of expert dental care.
For those unfamiliar with periodontal disease, it is a condition that affects the gums and bones supporting the teeth and can have serious implications if left untreated. Dr. Amy’s goal is always to restore her patients’ oral health and give them a reason to smile proudly once again.
The treatment began with the careful removal of diseased gum tissue. This critical first step paves the way for healing and reconstruction by excising the areas that are beyond recovery, thus controlling the spread of the infection.
After addressing the gums, the focus shifted beneath them, to the bone, which had suffered infection. Similar to the gums, the unhealthy bone revealed the same concerning traits: inflammation and a troubling softness to the touch. Our approach was meticulous—careful debridement—or in other words, scraping away of the unhealthy portions of the bone. This process is fundamental; it aids in getting rid of the diseased tissue, thereby setting the foundation for regeneration and healing.
The final phase of this patient’s treatment involved gum grafting procedures, a surgical method used to reconstruct and reinforce the areas where the gum tissue has either receded or has been removed due to disease. Gum grafts not only improve the aesthetic appearance but also enhance the functional integrity of the patient’s mouth.
The transformation journey is captured through compelling before and after photographs, which are more than just visuals; they tell a remarkable story of recovery and hope. Even as this post goes live, the patient continues to be under our dedicated supervision, ensuring a smooth and thorough return to optimal oral health.
Stay tuned for further updates, as we are committed to showing the ongoing transformation with more photographs documenting the progress. With each visit and every photograph, we aim to share not only the expertise behind the treatment but the tangible results that our patients experience.
